Accessibility Statement
Bixli is committed to making bixli.com accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is the foundation of our work — we hold our own site to the same standard we apply for our clients.
Conformance Status
This website targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We conduct automated and manual testing on an ongoing basis and address identified issues promptly.
Technical Specifications
Bixli.com is a static HTML website generated by Astro. It relies on the following technologies for its accessible experience:
- HTML5 semantic landmarks and heading hierarchy
- CSS (no reliance on color alone to convey information)
- JavaScript (used for navigation drawer and booking modal; all interactive elements are keyboard-operable)
- WAI-ARIA attributes on interactive components
The site loads the Proxima Nova typeface via Adobe Fonts with a full system-font fallback stack. No content is gated behind the font load.
Accessibility Features
- Skip-to-main-content link at the top of every page
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
- Color contrast ratios meeting or exceeding 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI components
- All images carry descriptive
alttext; decorative images are markedalt="" - Mobile navigation drawer is keyboard and screen-reader accessible with appropriate ARIA roles and states
- Booking modal manages focus on open and returns focus on close
- No content flashes more than three times per second
Accessible Formats for Blog Articles
Each published blog article is available in three alternative formats alongside the web version. These formats are intended to support different reading preferences and assistive technology workflows.
- Tagged PDF: Generated from the article's structured HTML using Playwright's tagged PDF output. The file includes semantic structure tags and a document outline, which enables screen readers and PDF viewers that support tagged PDFs to navigate by heading. This is a tagged PDF, not a PDF/A archival file — it does not carry PDF/A XMP metadata or embedded font conformance profiles. Automated PDF/UA validation is not currently part of the build pipeline; PDF output quality is inferred from the WCAG 2.2 AA axe validation applied to the source HTML.
- EPUB 3: Generated from the article's Markdown source using Pandoc. The file includes a table of contents, semantic heading structure, and an accessibility summary in its metadata. EPUB conformance is validated by Ace by DAISY on every build, and the process fails hard if Ace reports WCAG violations. Ace validates against EPUB Accessibility 1.1, which references WCAG 2.1 AA; WCAG 2.2 AA criteria are not yet covered by the EPUB accessibility specification.
- Large-print RTF: Generated at 18pt body text for compatibility with word processors and legacy assistive technology. Heading hierarchy and list structure are preserved. RTF does not support advanced accessibility features such as alt text or ARIA; this format is a plain-text fallback, not a primary accessible format.

Testing Approach
We test accessibility using a combination of automated and manual methods:
- Automated axe-core scans against WCAG 2.2 AA rules (tags:
wcag2a,wcag2aa,wcag21a,wcag21aa,wcag22aa,best-practice) on every generated route, run as part of each build - Ace by DAISY EPUB accessibility validation on every blog article export; the build fails if violations are found
- Lighthouse CI audits for accessibility, performance, and best practices
- Manual keyboard navigation review
- Visual review for focus visibility and color contrast
Known Limitations
We are actively working to reach full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance. Currently known areas under improvement:
- Page-specific social sharing images have not yet been published for all routes. Default brand images are used in the interim.
If you encounter any barrier not listed here, please let us know using the contact information below.
